“The strength of democracy lies in the fact that, regardless of the actions of radical groups, the people will ultimately compel them to adhere to the principles of democratic governance,” stated Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
According to the Speaker, every political party or force must accept the government that emerges from elections.
“There have been attempts and desires to change the Georgian government through violence, including external interference. Even before the October 26 elections, we observed direct meddling in the pre-election campaigning by various foreign politicians and diplomats.
However, after their expectations were thwarted and the Georgian people resisted the pressure from abroad to make their choice, we witnessed renewed efforts to change the government through non-democratic and violent means in an attempt to restore the United National Movement to power.
Therefore, regardless of these attempts, everyone will ultimately have to respect the will of the people, which is the essence of democracy. Elections are the sole legitimate path to power,” Papuashvili asserted.
