Speaker: U.S. Embassy website stormed, reflecting our longstanding concerns about funded NGOs
“I think everyone has acknowledged that what we presented is an exact verbatim of the American FARA. We all know that America is an exemplary country, including for the critics of the transparency principle. Yesterday, we saw how they stormed the U.S. Embassy’s website, and effectively, the Embassy experienced firsthand what we have long felt from the NGOs they fund,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament.
According to Papuashvili, if anyone has objections to the American FARA version, they can appeal to the Embassy.
“We initiated the American FARA, and we deliberately kept the terms used in the American FARA to leave no room for speculation. All terms are identical. I think everyone has acknowledged that this is an exact verbatim of the American FARA. We all know that America is an exemplary country, even for critics of the transparency principle, so they know where the Embassy is.
Yesterday, we saw how they stormed the U.S. Embassy’s website, and, effectively, the Embassy experienced firsthand what we have long felt from the NGOs they fund. I’m talking about bullying, hate speech, and threats directed at Georgian entities. Yesterday, we saw this on the U.S. Embassy’s Facebook page. This is identical to the American version, and if they have anything to criticize, they should criticize America,” Papuashvili stated.
