Speaker: Situation on streets, aggressive groups defused, everyone to accept Georgian people's choice

“We have recently been witnessing peaceful protests with fewer protesters free of political actors mobilized by aggressive groups. Such transfiguration of demonstrations is welcomed reflecting the return of the current process to the normal political bed in the country,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to Papuashvili, those who instigate disorder, harm the country and the Georgian people.

“We have been seeing the forces, which do not seek peace, tranquillity, solidarity and doing work within the framework of political law and constitution. I would say openly that those who instigate disorder, harm the country and the Georgian people. Enough time has passed since the beginning of protest rallies. We have heard protests, discontent, claims and reprimands. For the whole period, we have tried to respond to everything step-by-step and methodically, trying to explain that the right to freedom of expression and manifestation is protected, while the attacks on police officers and mass violence would be averted. We attempted to explain that there is no Chelyabinsk, there is only Georgia, its capital Tbilisi and its main avenue – Rustaveli. The days and nights come. The country, despite everything follows the normal pace of usual lifestyle as before, during the last 12 years. We follow our goals and objectives step-by-step, methodically and consistently. We are moving forward to the European integration the integral part of which is free and fair elections, like the one which we conducted on October 26. The Georgian Dream won the polls with the vast majority of votes, securing 1,120,000, i.e. 54% of votes.

All those who assert that this was not so, tell lies, they failed to present any evidence that elections were rigged, because there is no proof in nature. The false campaign had initiators, authors, disseminators and activists. These are the same people who lied successfully to their potential voters before October 26 alleging the majority of people supported the opposition and that everything would change through elections. Those who were convinced later faced a bare reality and this came to them as a shock. It was inconceivable for them that they lost, the result of this reality rejection is what we see in the streets today.

In fact, nobody was defeated. Everybody secured their votes, percentages and representation. The rights of everybody are protected and everyone’s voice is heard. Everyone is allowed to live peacefully and engage in politics through conventional form. The only ones, who were defeated were Georgia’s adversaries, those who do not pursue peace, development and consistent progress,” he said.

The Speaker went on to say that Georgia’s adversaries seek change at any cost, they want to overthrow the lawfully elected government with all available methods, and the protests turned into rituals by burning coffins and voodoos.

“We received a whole cohort of scribes as an idol of a foreigner, for whom the word of a foreigner is supreme and supreme. This is where the essential watershed passes between us and the radicals, for whom subjugation and worship of an external strong master is supreme, and for whom their own country, national interests, their own identity, and Georgia are first and foremost. The Georgian Dream stands on that and we will not admit the country’s ruling from outside. This is an issue of disagreement between the Georgian government and the opposition ruled from abroad,” he said.

Shalva Papuashvili remarked that everyone would have to accept the Georgian people’s choice because it was based on the truth.

“The situation in the streets calmed down and the majority of aggressive groups were defused. Life is returning to its usual style and everyone will have to accept and recognize the Georgian people’s choice since it is based on truth. Amid this, we see, hopefully, the last battle, the visit of foreign politicians, who arrived at Rustaveli Avenue as inspirators. They aim to add fuel to the ceased fire and reversal of the lost agenda,” he said.

The Speaker stated that the Georgian Dream stands firm with no intention to retreat.

“The only pain I feel is the viewpoints of people who may be critical, but love their country and find it difficult to understand the path followed by the government elected by the majority of people. I believe that with time, everyone will objectively acknowledge what we serve,” he concluded.
