“At the meeting with the Romanian Prime Minister, we received full support of Romania for Georgia’s EU candidate status,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to the Speaker, Romania supported Georgia’s candidate status even last year.

“We stressed that it is significant to maintain the unity of the Associated Trio, and Georgia should be there where Ukraine and Moldova are,” he said.

Shalva Papuashvili stressed Romania’s support is induced by the “spirit of strategic partnership” that Georgia has shared with the country since 2022 when the Black Sea submarine electricity cable agreement was signed. Papuashvili added security was primary for the countries in the region.

“From this point of view, we will keep active cooperation with Romania, as a NATO member country, which is one of our big supporters in matters of military reconstruction and NATO integration,” Papuashvili stated.
