Speaker Papuashvili meets Turkish counterpart

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, met with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmuş, the Georgian Parliament reported.

During the meeting, it was noted that Georgia and Türkiye have achieved significant progress in both bilateral and multilateral cooperation, reflected in economic and political dimensions alike. Particular emphasis was placed on the steady pace of high-level visits between the two countries.

Papuashvili expressed his gratitude to the Turkish side for its steadfast support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and non-recognition policy. The sides discussed the positive momentum in interparliamentary relations and reaffirmed their readiness to further deepen ties. In this regard, the crucial role of parliamentary friendship groups was underlined.

The two speakers highlighted the importance of trilateral parliamentary cooperation formats and confirmed that a meeting between the Speakers of the Parliaments of Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye is being planned. The discussion also touched upon regional and global developments, underscoring the shared commitment to fostering regional peace and stability.

The meeting addressed regional and strategically significant projects, with both sides reaffirming their readiness to work on enhancing energy and transport connectivity—aimed at fully realising the potential of the Middle Corridor.

Shalva Papuashvili extended an official invitation to Kurtulmuş to visit Georgia in return.

Following the meeting, the parties held a joint press conference.

The meeting took place within the framework of Speaker’s ongoing official visit to Türkiye.
