Speaker Papuashvili: Knowledge is easily acquired today, but values matter most, and patriotism stands above all else
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet with the fourth cohort of this camp and talk about the profound significance of the Army Camp. I share a unique, emotional connection with this location. Years ago, right here in Kojori, I undertook my own reservist training. Coming back here brings back a flood of memories,” stated the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, during his address at the opening ceremony of Army Camp 2026.
Shalva Papuashvili went on to speak to the participants about the broader value of the initiative.
“My particular wish for you is that you use the days spent here at the Army Camp to forge new friendships with your peers, and, of course, to absorb the knowledge you will be given. But above all, I hope you take the time in these beautiful surroundings to reflect on your homeland, your families, and the future of your country.
Summer camps have always held immense value. Whether sports, educational, mountaineering, or hiking camps, these gatherings have historically left a lasting impression on the hearts and minds of the participating young people.
Since we regained our independence, the armed forces have taken on a uniquely significant meaning. Our country boasts exemplary servicemen and women, an army that has proven time and again that, at a moment’s notice, they stand ready to answer the nation’s call and defend the interests of our country and its people. This is why anything related to our military carries such special depth.
In today’s world, accessing various forms of education and information is easy. However, the most essential qualities a young person can develop are values, principal among them being patriotism and a love for one’s homeland. Cultivating these values requires the right environment. Where better than the army to fully sense both the joy and the weight of patriotism? Both exist together in the armed forces, alongside the deep responsibility and understanding of what it truly means to serve your country.
I wish you all an engaging few days. Spend this time with the awareness that the day will come when you, as parents and citizens, will carry the responsibility for your own families and for this country. It is our duty, and the purpose of this project, to ensure you are ready for that responsibility, because patriotism and a love for your country are not just great privileges; they are an immense responsibility. I hope the days you spend at the Army Camp remain etched in your hearts and minds forever,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
