Speaker Papuashvili: Georgian Lari embodies our nation’s dignity, heritage, and spirit

“Our government has played a pivotal role in elevating economic policy and ensuring legal stability,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, during his speech at the conference commemorating the anniversary of the Georgian national currency – Lari.

According to Papuashvili, the GEL, as a national currency, must remain dynamic and continue evolving.

“Today, the Georgian Lari endures all challenges with dignity and stands as a proud symbol that fully reflects the dignity, history, and ideology of our nation—in both content and form. The Lari, as a monetary denomination, should not remain static. It must continue to develop—updating its design, adapting to new needs, and issuing commemorative banknotes and coins. The National Bank, which has consistently managed a responsible monetary policy over the years, oversees and safeguards the integrity of the Georgian Lari.

Under its leadership, our banking sector has become one of the pillars of the economy, continuously strengthening its credibility both locally and internationally, opening new opportunities for our country. I congratulate everyone on the 30th anniversary of the Georgian Lari and wish that each subsequent milestone brings even greater pride and joy,” Papuashvili remarked.
