The Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili met with Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.
According to the Georgian Parliament, the two officials highlighted the long-standing friendly relations between Georgia and Turkmenistan and positively assessed the recent dynamics of high-level visits, including those of the Georgian Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament to Ashgabat.
The meeting focused on bilateral cooperation in trade and economy, tourism, transport, energy and culture.
Papuashvili underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and expressed readiness to further strengthen ties between sectoral committees, noting that Georgia would be pleased to host the Chairman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.
The parties also emphasized the strategic geographical location of both countries in terms of enhancing connectivity between East and West and discussed ongoing and future transport and energy projects.
The talks touched on regional developments in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, stressing the importance of efforts aimed at ensuring long-term peace and stability.
The sides positively assessed cooperation within the framework of the United Nations. Rashid Meredov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and expressed gratitude for Georgia’s support of Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Georgia–Turkmenistan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Davit Matikashvili, and Georgia’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Konstantine Sabiashvili.
