Speaker: Georgian government, people prevented dire situation as is in Ukraine when war is at stalemate
“The situation in Ukraine is dire. The country is neither able to end nor continue the war,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
According to the Speaker, the Georgian government demonstrated caution amid attempts to drag Georgia into a devastating war.
“When external forces, internal opposition, and NGOs were attempting to drag us into war, we said, ‘Who knows better but we Georgians how such wars begin, and how such wars end’ from our bitter experience.’ The Georgian government demonstrated extreme caution since there were attempts on the part of internal or external forces to drag Georgia into a devastating war.
In contrast, we saw fake audacuty, fake heroism at computer keyboards without understanding what sowing such hysteria in Georgia meant. The situation in Ukraine is dire. The country is neither able to end nor continue the war. This is the biggest challenge. The situation reached a stalemate. The outcome is to keep on fighting, which is hard, or end the war, which is hard too.
President Zelenskyy’s statement yesterday is the confirmation that Ukraine has to choose between two worse choices. This is exactly what they wanted to happen in Georgia, to force Georgians to select one of the bad choices, but the Georgian government and Georgian people prevented this from happening in our country,” he said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told his country in an address on Friday that it could face a pivotal choice between “losing dignity or a major partner.”
