Speaker: Gakharia for Georgia survives ban by deciding to resume parliamentary work
“In the case of Gakharia for Georgia party, the main legal line would be election sabotage. However, by retaining MP mandates and announcing several days ago that they would resume parliamentary work, they survived arguments,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
According to the Speaker, the Georgian Dream’s demand to Gakharia for Georgia is based on two criteria.
“Our demand to Gakharia for Georgia is based on two criteria. First is the justification of unconstitutionality, and the second is the relevance of the party. In the case of Gakharia for Georgia party, the main legal line would be election sabotage. However, by retaining MP mandates and announcing several days ago that they would resume parliamentary work, and they did it today, they survived these arguments,” he said.
The joint constitutional lawsuit of Georgian Dream faction and People’s Power and European Socialists political groups urges for declaring as unconstitutional and their ban of three parties: United National Movement (UNM); Coalition for Change – Gvaramia, Melia, Girchi, Droa; Strong Georgia – Lelo, For People, For Freedom.
