Speaker: Fate decided otherwise: Georgian government in place, Georgian media broadcasting, but Starmer quitting politics
“It is noteworthy that the person who was the first in the history of Georgia-Great Britain relations to take hostile steps against Georgia is not only quitting his position but also politics,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote in his Facebook post.
The Speaker echoed the statement by the outgoing Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, saying: “I’m proud to leave this country in a better shape than I found it.”
“By using financial sanctions as a political weapon, it attempted first to dismantle the government elected by the Georgian people, and subsequently to financially destroy and shut down independent Georgian media. However, the fate decided otherwise: The Georgian government is in place, Georgian media is broadcasting, but Starmer is quitting politics,” he said.
