Speaker: Europe's responsibility in Georgia's polarization lies with sheltering Georgian former officials

“With the help of the “Russian law” acting in the US, we saw that the agreement with lobbyists has been concluded on behalf of Formula TV in the amount of half a million US dollars to spread the disinformation by this media outlet that Davit Kezerashvili (former defence minister) is a media manager being in exile. In fact, he is a criminal,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to Papuashvili, nobody should give shelter to criminals.

“It is the responsibility of the European Union and Europe that a person who has committed crimes, as he confessed, finances the media, parties and non-governmental organizations in Georgia. This aims at polarization. Europe’s contribution to depolarization would be handing over a criminal to Georgia,” he said.

The Speaker stated that the problem in Georgia is radicalism rather than polarization.

“Europe also has contributed, in particular, by not extraditing Kezerashvili to Georgia. Where was Mikheil Saakashvili hiding? In Europe. We were not told, but we saw the result of his revolutionary plans. There are other criminals in Europe, who should be handed over to Georgia, among them Zurab Adeishvili is in Ukraine; he also travels to Europe. This would be their contribution to depolarization.

While David Kezerashvili is hiding in Europe, we hear claims that Georgia should depolarize. At the same time, Europe is giving shelter to a criminal who is spoiling the situation in the country. We have our own answers to such claims. Sheltering Saakashvili previously and still granting asylum to Kezerashvili lay with the responsibility of Europe in the polarization in Georgia,” Papuashvili said.
