Speaker: Congratulations to Giorgi Modebadze on his appointment as Constitutional Court judge
Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, alongside the President of Georgia, attended the swearing-in ceremony of Giorgi Modebadze, who was appointed by Mikheil Kavelashvili to serve as a judge of the Constitutional Court.
“I extend my congratulations to Mr Giorgi on his appointment as a judge of the Constitutional Court. This represents the highest honour and the greatest responsibility for any lawyer. It is the pinnacle of a legal career, which inherently requires that this honour, and the accompanying burden, be borne with the utmost integrity,” stated Shalva Papuashvili during his remarks at the ceremony.
The Chairman of Parliament emphasised the vital role the Constitutional Court has played in the legal development of Georgia.
“To serve as a judge of the Constitutional Court means upholding this honour and shouldering this responsibility with due diligence. I wish for you to carry this weight through your actions, firstly before your profession and, ultimately, before the Constitution itself. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Georgia’s Constitution, making it a particularly significant year. It provides us with an opportunity to revisit and reflect on the constitutional foundations upon which our country stands. In this context, the Constitutional Court has historically played a crucial role in shaping our legal landscape,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
Yesterday, the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, appointed Giorgi Modebadze as a judge of the Constitutional Court. According to Article 60 of the Georgian Constitution, the Court is composed of nine judges, each serving a ten-year term. Three judges are appointed by the President, three are elected by Parliament by a three-fifths majority, and three are appointed by the Supreme Court.
