Speaker: Brussels failed to condemn October 4 attack on Georgia’s Presidential Palace for two months

“Brussels must reject support for violence and return to fundamental European values such as respect for human rights and the rule of law,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote on social media.

Papuashvili emphasised that a failure to condemn violence encourages extremism, and a failure to condemn extremism, in turn, fuels terrorism.

“Today is December 4. For two months, Brussels has refused to condemn or dissociate itself from the violent storming of the Presidential Palace in Georgia by extremist groups on October 4. The refusal to condemn violence fuels extremism; the failure to condemn extremism fuels terrorism. We have already seen this cause-and-effect relationship in Georgia. Brussels must stop supporting violence and recommit to core European values, respect for human rights and the rule of law,” wrote Shalva Papuashvili.
