Speaker: EU integration benefits should be available to countries on membership path

It is essential that countries on the path to membership experience the certain benefits that EU integration brings. I am pleased that the European Union views the process in this way, stated Shalva Papuashvili, the Georgian Parliament Speaker, on Friday.

“We can already see that Georgia is included on the list. The enlargement of the European Union should not be implemented without Georgia.

Regarding the EU’s new approach to the accession process, it is essential that countries on the path to membership experience the certain benefits that EU integration brings. This should apply not only to Georgia but to all states and people undergoing the accession process.

They should feel these benefits along the way, considering that the membership process can be lengthy, and people may wonder when the membership advantages will be realized. While there might be certain restrictions in the form of regulations, positive developments should occur simultaneously.

I am pleased that the European Union looks at the process in this way. Hopefully, such decisions will be made in the end,” Shalva Papuashvili emphasized.
