Speaker backs PM's call for Ambassadors' involvement in Transparency of Foreign Influence bill discussion
The Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, has expressed his support for the Prime Minister’s proposal to hold a public discussion on the draft law on Transparency of Foreign Influence with ambassadors from partner countries.
Papuashvili emphasized the importance of transparency in democracy and welcomed the opportunity to participate in the proposed public discussion to provide comprehensive answers to any questions regarding the draft.
“While it is unusual for foreign diplomats to involve themselves directly in political debates within Georgia, we are prepared to engage in this public discussion proposed by the Prime Minister. Our goal is to ensure that the law-making process remains transparent and inclusive.
We are ready to listen to well-founded arguments from international partners, believing that their input would benefit the legislative process. We’re confident that the Georgian friends would act in the country’s best interests and responsibly address issues related to security and sovereignty,” Papuashvili wrote on social media.
He concluded that the Georgian Parliament will thoroughly discuss the Transparency of Foreign Influence bill in a transparent, inclusive, and belligerent manner.
