Speaker: Amnesty International joined foreign disinformation campaign aimed to release Saakashvili from just punishment
“The operation to release Saakashvili from a just punishment through swindling has been thwarted, while Amnesty International has long established a reputation as a fraud,” Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvii wrote on Facebook.
According to Papuashvili, the fraud of the organization was revealed in 2023 when it made statements over Mikheil Saakashvili’s health condition.
“The fact that Amnesty International had embarked on a path of deception became apparent as early as 2023, when it joined a foreign disinformation campaign aimed at shielding Saakashvili from a just punishment.
Several weeks after Amnesty International made slanderous statements, the Strasbourg-based Court established that what this organization as Saakashvili’s foreign partners, said was a sheer lie. According to the Strasbourg ruling, Saakashvili did not require release due to his health condition; there was not even a need to transfer him to another hospital.
The world soon learnt from this shameful fraud that the dying dictator miraculously survived, overcame ataxia, recovered from dementia, and gave birth to a child. The fraudulent operation to free Saakashvili from justice failed, while Amnesty International has long established a reputation as a fraud,” he wrote.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio branded Amnesty International a “fraud” during a joint press conference in Lisbon, accusing the organisation of ignoring alleged Iranian atrocities while defending US military cooperation.
