Slovakia pledges continued support for Georgia in EU, says MP Samkharadze
According to Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, Georgia’s recent meetings in Slovakia focused on strengthening bilateral relations.
“During our meetings with the President of Slovakia, the Chairman of the Parliament, and the Vice Prime Minister, we discussed political and trade-economic cooperation. Slovakia is one of the most loyal and steadfast supporters of both Georgia’s territorial integrity and its European integration. We also addressed challenges in relations with the European Union. Slovakia shares our view that Georgia is sometimes treated unfairly, with higher demands compared to other candidate countries, often influenced by political interests. Some consider the Georgian government inconvenient because it does not blindly follow instructions,” Samkharadze said.
The meetings also covered exchange visits and regional security.
“In the near future, the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament will visit Slovakia, boosting parliamentary cooperation. We discussed security, including the occupied territories, the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and conflicts in the Middle East on the Black Sea region. Key projects of interest to Slovakia include the Middle Corridor transport route and Georgia’s energy potential. We also addressed cultural and educational ties, with plans to increase places for Georgian students in Slovak universities. All of this strengthens bilateral ties and supports Georgia’s European integration. The Slovak side reaffirmed its commitment to defend Georgia’s interests in the EU and hopes more countries will adopt a pragmatic policy toward Georgia,” Samkharadze noted.
President Mikheil Kavelashvili is visiting Bratislava with a delegation that includes Nikoloz Samkharadze, Giorgi Zurabashvili, Ambassador Konstantine Kvachakidze, and representatives of the Presidential Administration.
