Shalva Papuashvili: Anti-Georgian resolution pushed by vested interests is scandal for OSCEPA itself

“Today’s decision by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly exposes yet again that without a profound, comprehensive reset, global bodies of this nature have no future and risk becoming mere instruments for political intrigue and vendettas,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, has declared.

Speaker Papuashvili was asked for comment regarding the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s adoption of the Hague Declaration, which includes a specific resolution targeting Georgia.

“The erosion of the rules-based international order is evidenced not so much by the outbreak of new wars, but by the fact that international organisations have been transformed into tools for political warfare. We are witnessing this firsthand in Georgia’s case, where various platforms within these organisations are being actively exploited to pursue political vendettas. Regrettably, these institutions allow themselves to be weaponised by such political factions.

Today, we witness global institutions, whose primary mandate is to promote peace and cooperation, acting instead as the architects of false narratives, conflict escalation, and targeted assaults on state sovereignty. Today’s decision by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly exposes yet again that without a profound, comprehensive reset, global bodies of this nature have no future and risk becoming mere instruments for political intrigue and vendettas,” Papuashvili stated.

When questioned about the underlying motives behind European politicians’ current stance toward Georgia, the Speaker asserted that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly had effectively distorted the findings of its own election observation mission.

“Naturally, our own grievances are what impact us closest, and we view these developments through that lens. Other nations may well face similar challenges, but in this latest resolution, where Joe Wilson has once again revealed his true colours, we have seen the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly outright distort the official conclusions of the OSCE observation mission. What we are witnessing is the substitution of facts with manipulation, alongside a concerted effort to fabricate false narratives against Georgia.

Therefore, this anti-Georgian resolution, approved today by factions with distinct political designs on Georgia, is a scandal for the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly itself. It is a carousel of the exact same individuals and familiar faces. Whether it is the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the OSCE, or other similar forums, the same names and faces constantly rotate. One week, they assault Georgia in PACE, drafting anti-Georgian documents; the next week, they do it in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly; and the week after that, at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

These same individuals are single-mindedly assigned to target Georgia in an attempt to damage our country. Their conduct is definitive proof that the rules-based international order no longer exists. These people are operating under 19th-century rules, entirely prepared to assault an entire nation using various institutional tools simply to advance their own political agendas,” Papuashvili concluded.
