Sergey Lavrov - Meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister in New York took place at the initiative of Georgian side

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news briefing held in the UN that the meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister was held at the initiative of the Georgian side, – RIA Novosti reports.

“The meeting with the Georgian Foreign Minister was requested by him,” Lavrov said. He added that some of the comments about the meeting were funning and astonishing. “I mean the comments made by Georgians themselves,” he said.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry yesterday denied reports spread by the Russian media that the meeting between the two countries’ foreign ministers was held at the request of the Georgian side.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Davit Zalkaliani met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 26.
