School Graduate Exams to be abolished for 12th grade students this year

I have made a decision to exempt both 11th and 12th-graders from school graduation exams, – Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated at the briefing before today’s Government meeting.

According to the Head of Government, the Ministry of Education has abolished diploma examinations for 11th-graders in 2019 and for 11th and 12th-graders in 2020. This approach was commended by Mamuka Bakhtadze as a principally correct approach, though it was decided to abolish exams for both graduating grades as a result of intensive consultations with the field’s specialists.

“We need a strong, independent school focused on education, not preparation for exams. Our goal is to empower school as the foundation of education,” Mamuka Bakhtadze underlined.

According to the Prime Minister, this year higher education entrants will have to pass national exams, and this system will be changed only in 2020.

Sopho Gorgodze, the Director of the National Examination Center presented a new model of the education system on January 29.
