Salome Zourabichvili: Events near presidential palace are provocation against peaceful protest

Former Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has called the events near the presidential palace a provocation, describing them as “an attempt to break up a peaceful protest.”

According to Zourabichvili, demonstrators are continuing a protest that has lasted for 310 days, opposing the regime peacefully.

“Those who are gathered here are protesting today’s elections and continuing a peaceful demonstration. What is happening now is pure provocation, though I don’t know whose scenario it serves. This is an attempt to break up the peaceful protest. The important thing is to maintain a peaceful stance. I will be here tomorrow as well, and many of us should gather so that this provocation ends with the victory of the peaceful protest,” Zourabichvili stated.

Tensions escalated outside the Atoneli Presidential Palace in Tbilisi, where protesters broke into the premises. Special Task Force officers were deployed to the scene. Demonstrators threw stones and various objects at law enforcement officers. The police used water cannons.
