Saakashvili: International situation is improving; America recognizes reality – we must keep our fighting spirit
“The absolute majority of politicians express solidarity with me. Those who don’t, let it be on their conscience,” jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili stated during his remote engagement in today’s court hearing.
According to Saakashvili, with the current government, “we are dealing with people who have stooped to all kinds of filth, and this is only the beginning.”
Mikheil Saakashvili also addressed accusations related to the August War.
“I want to express my deep gratitude to numerous opposition politicians, not just from our party. Igor Narmania, the younger generation is incredibly strong, along with Levan Sanikidze, Nika Gvaramia, and many others who continuously show me their solidarity. I am very thankful for this support. The vast majority of politicians stand in solidarity with me; for those who do not, that is their own conscience to bear.
We understand that we are dealing with individuals who have resorted to all kinds of dishonorable actions and who are capable of committing various atrocities. What you are witnessing regarding this war and the blame directed at Georgia is just the beginning. These individuals have not only spoken against us but have also been complicit in the physical destruction of our soldiers and fighters over the years. They have provided lists that led to the detention of our participants from 2008 in one country after another. We did everything we could. They claim we failed to evacuate the population, but one of our primary tasks was exactly that—to evacuate the citizens. The bypass road that people were using was already blocked by Russian special forces. The only route available was in close proximity to Tskhinvali, and to counter Russian aggression, we needed to respond. This was not the start of the war; everyone knows that the conflict had been ignited long before,” stated Mikheil Saakashvili.
According to Saakashvili, the main task is firmness, not backing down, unity, because the government is very afraid of unity. Saakashvili stated that there is no alternative to unity.
“Georgia will win in any case, the international situation is improving, Ukrainians are standing strong, in America they are increasingly recognizing who they’re dealing with, and the new administration is moving much more purposefully, in a much more correct direction, everything is falling into place correctly. The main thing is that until then, we maintain our fighting spirit, our morale, that we don’t break, that we stand firm. These people are the complete personification of lies and betrayal, but we are an example of magnanimity, patriotism, and the exceptionalism of the Georgian nation. Everyone who is fighting, everyone who is in the streets, we are the absolute majority – we need to prove that we are the absolute majority, this country belongs to you, everything will be great,” stated Mikheil Saakashvili.
