Rustaveli Avenue movement leader warns of escalating tensions: We must prevent Nepal-style crisis
“We are witnessing actions so reckless that, God forbid, what is currently unfolding in Nepal could happen here as well. We must act to prevent this, or else it may come to pass,” said Paata Burchuladze, leader of the Rustaveli Avenue movement.
Burchuladze expressed the belief that it would be wise for authorities to release Levan Khabeishvili and Murtaz Zodelava today.
“They realise they have no solid ground beneath them and that the entire country is against them. In response, they resort to repression, but they still cannot stop this generation. It would be very wise for them to release Levan and Murtaz Zodelava now. Preparations for the October 4 rally will continue. Of course, Levan’s absence will be noticeable in the process, as he is a very active individual. All those arrested will be absent.
On the other hand, this situation serves as an example for the people: they cannot be stopped, not even for a moment. The movement should not halt until October 4.
October 4 was meticulously planned; we intended to act calmly and peacefully, without clashes. But now, I don’t know what will happen. They are doing things in such a way that, God forbid, what is happening in Nepal could happen here too. We must prevent this; otherwise, it might indeed come to pass,” Paata Burchuladze stated.
