Romania’s FM: Strategic partnership with Georgia is driven by belief in Georgia’s European future; citizens, not authorities, lead the way

“Romania is the first country in the European Union that has signed a strategic partnership with Georgia, and we continue to have that strategic partnership in place because we believe in the European future of Georgia,” Romanian Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Țoiu made this statement before the start of the EU Foreign Ministers’ Council.

“It is true that the ones who are fighting more for that future, who contribute more to that future in this present moment, are the citizens rather than the institutions and the political and the central authorities. And we believe that is also a sign of the resilience of the Georgian society and the fact that we need to continue the dialogue and continue to invest in the European Union path for Georgia as well.

Why is that very important for Romania? It’s not just because Georgia is a country of regional significance; it’s because we need to collaborate more and stand united when it comes to the Black Sea. And obviously, in that sense, we are worried about current developments in Georgia,” Romania’s FM stated.
