Recognition of so-called independence of Georgian occupied regions by Belarus not on agenda, Georgian MFA says
Belarus to recognize the so-called independence of Georgia’s occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali is not on the agenda, considering the bilateral relations between Belarus and Georgia, the country’s Foreign Ministry has said.
The remark came after a Russian reporter’s interview with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko read Lukashenko does not rule out the recognition of the so-called independence of occupied regions of Georgia.
Asked when Belarus will recognize the independence of those regions, president Lukashenko answered: Is there a need for this?… When I understand, and the president says that there is a need for it…”
Georgian Foreign Ministry claims that separate excerpts from the interview were spread in the Russian media with targeted accents and interpretations.
