Protesters prevent Technical University rector from paying tribute at April 9 Memorial

Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Davit Gurgenidze, was denied entry to the April 9 Memorial by protesters.

Gurgenidze stated that for 36 years, it has been a tradition for professors, teachers, and students to honour the heroes of April 9—those people, who played a pivotal role in the country’s fight for independence.

“We, the students, professors, and teachers, have walked along Rustaveli Avenue, this proud and cherished street of ours, every year for the past 36 years. Many participants remember the events of that terrible day. Therefore, this year, in keeping with tradition, we were eager to come together and pay our respects to the heroes of April 9, those who significantly contributed to our nation’s independence,” emphasized Davit Gurgenidze.
