Protest in Kutaisi

Friends and relatives of six sportsmen detained in Batumi are holding a protest at the Imereti Regional Police in Kutaisi city. The opposition United National Movement (UNM) organized the protest.

Protesters blocked the road. They demand the unconditional release of the detainees. A member of the UNM party Bondo Tevdoradze said the sportsmen were victims of the provocation organized at the anti-Namakhvani protest in the Gumati settlement on April 12.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said the detainees are charged with organizing group violence. They physically assaulted three people and damaged a car belonging to one of the protesters.
