Prosecutors interrogate former State Security Chief

Grigol Liluashvili, former Head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG), had been questioned at the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Speaking to journalists, he stated that he was unaware of which case the summons concerned.

“When they summoned me, I arrived. I don’t know anything. It appears they’re interested in certain details relating to a specific case. I don’t know what case it is; I’ve never given testimony before. This is my first time,” Liluashvili said.

When questioned by journalists about the possibility of being charged after the questioning, Liluashvili replied: “Everything is in God’s hands. I can’t rule anything out.”

For context, on October 17, 2025, searches were conducted at the residential properties of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, former Head of the State Security Service of Georgia Grigol Liluashvili, and former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze, and individuals connected to them. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the searches resulted in the seizure of various electronic devices, documentation, and large sums of cash. The State Security Service also disclosed the identities of those whose homes were searched in parallel with those of Irakli Garibashvili, Grigol Liluashvili, and Otar Partskhaladze.

On October 22, Koba Khundadze, an individual linked to Grigol Liluashvili, was arrested on charges of laundering illegal proceeds on an exceptionally large scale. The following day, October 23, another associate of Grigol Liluashvili, Andria Liluashvili, was also arrested.
