Prosecutor General: Prosecutor’s Office prioritises implementing victim-centred criminal justice policy and protecting victims’ rights
“Implementing a victim-centred criminal justice policy, alongside protecting and empowering victims, is a top priority under the strategic plan of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia,” Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze asserted during the presentation of the service’s 2025 performance report to the Parliament of Georgia.
According to Gvarakidze, to ensure the effective protection of victims’ rights and offer them emotional support, the agency is continuously improving the quality of service provided by witness and victim coordinators.
“In recent years, the number of individuals supported by the Witness and Victim Coordinator Service has neared 5,000. Victims of domestic abuse, various forms of violence, sexual offences, transport-related crimes, and offences against the person sought assistance most frequently.
Throughout the year, heightened focus was placed on prevention. Information guides were developed for both adult and minor victims, detailing the rights available to them at various stages of legal proceedings, whom they will be communicating with throughout the process, the roles of key participants, including the prosecutor, and what expectations they should have upon the conclusion of the proceedings,” the Prosecutor General stated.
