A business tour for American and British film producers has been held in Georgia within the framework of the state programme “Film in Georgia”.

The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development’s Produce in Georgia agency shared that the producers viewed locations of interest for filming, familiarised themselves with the process of film and television production in Georgia, and held meetings with representatives of the local film sector.

As Mikheil Khidureli, Director of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development’s Produce in Georgia agency, noted, film projects supported within the programme’s framework contribute to increasing Georgia’s recognition as a country with beautiful nature and ancient culture, which, in turn, has a positive impact on the tourism industry.

“It is significant that the Vice-President of HBO East Coast Productions was among the invited producers. We hope to see Hollywood projects in Georgia soon,” Mikheil Khidureli remarked.

According to the Produce in Georgia director, 65 film projects have been supported within the programme’s framework, whilst the volume of investment realised exceeded GEL 200 million.

The programme has been implemented by the Produce in Georgia agency since 2016. According to Mikheil Khidureli’s statement, the programme is actively promoted at various leading international film festivals and film markets, including the Cannes and Berlin Film Festivals, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and the American Film Market. As a result, Georgia, as a filming location, is becoming increasingly relevant, and foreign producers’ interest is growing.

Khidureli noted that the programme also contributes to the development of the local film industry, as film projects supported by the programme primarily employ local personnel.
