Prime Minister says German ambassador’s political bias undermines diplomatic relations

“It is absolutely clear that Peter Fischer harbours political bias, and it is precisely this bias that has led him to avoid discussing topics unfavourable to the radical opposition,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

According to the Prime Minister, Fischer’s term of office will soon come to an end. The Georgian government hopes that he will be replaced by an ambassador committed to improving the relationship between the two nations.

“Mr Fischer is politically biased. There is little more to say on the matter. His term will soon expire, and we can only hope that he will be succeeded by an ambassador who will prioritise not worsening, but strengthening, the relations between Georgia and Germany. We must remain hopeful. His bias is evident; he frequently intervenes in politics in favour of the opposition. When faced with a question that could be detrimental to them, he naturally preferred to avoid further discussion with journalists. It is absolutely clear that he is politically biased, and this bias has caused him to shy away from addressing topics that are unfavourable to the radical opposition,” Kobakhidze concluded.
