“I am moved by the tragedy that occurred in Batumi, which has claimed the lives,” – says the statement of Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili.
“I offer my wholehearted condolences to the families and relatives of the victims. I wish quick recovery to those injured. I’d also like to thank rescuers, firefighters and all those who saved others’ lives in a very dangerous situation. I hope that the investigation will soon establish the cause of the fire,” the statement reads.
Eleven people died as a result of the fire, which broke out last evening at 5-star Leogrand Hotel in Batumi. Ten people are citizens of Georgia, one – Iran. More than 100 people were evacuated from the building.
