President of the Institute for European Prospective and Security: Georgia should find its own way to build democracy
Georgia should not look only at Europe. You should find your own way of building democracy, not only by focusing and comparing on the European system, – Emmanuel Dupuy, the President of the Institute for European Prospective and Security said about it after the meeting with Chairperson of Georgian Central Election Commission Tamar Zhvania.
According to Emmanuel Dupuy, democracy is local behavior, taking into account social and historical-cultural issues.
“One system can not change the uniqueness and distinctiveness. There is no established international standard. Every country has its own standard of transparency and human rights. As a researcher, I think it is impossible to take democracy from one place and artificially shift it to another. You are a young democracy, and your comparison with the old democracies would be wrong. You can not ignore geography. You live in a geopolitical environment that is close to both Europe and Asia”, – said President of the Institute for European Prospective and Security.
