President of Tajikistan says he accentuated significance of economic cooperation, political dialogue with Georgian PM

“The central topic for discussion was trade and economic cooperation. We are interested in deepening economic relations,” said President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon during the joint briefing with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

According to Emomali Rahmon, during the meeting with the Georgian PM, the sides reviewed prospects for intensifying bilateral relations, including by signing a document that would strengthen the legislative base for strengthening relations in air communication, agriculture, tourism, education, culture, sports, climate change and other areas.

“During the talks, we emphasized the importance of activating political dialogue, and we also discussed various working contacts at various levels, parliamentary relations, and strengthening the role of MPs in the long-term relations between the two countries. The central topic for discussion was trade and economic cooperation. We are interested in deepening economic relations through bilateral steps,” he said.

President of Tajikistan stressed that the country was interested in expanding cooperation in the green economy, industry, technology and innovations, including artificial intelligence. He noted that light industry, food, mining, pharmaceutics, agriculture and tourism were revealed and identified as spheres of mutual interest.

Emomali Rahmon underscored that constructive dialogue between Georgia and Tajikistan had utmost significance.

“We paid special attention to deepening ties in the cultural and humanitarian spheres, which are an important element in strengthening our friendship and promoting mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries. We welcome activation of ties in education, science, culture, youth affairs and sports. It is noteworthy that within the framework of the visit, the Honourable Prime Minister participated in the opening of the monument of the poet, writer and brilliant representative of the Georgian classic literature Shota Rustaveli. There will be a street in Dushanbe named after Shota Rustaveli. This is an important step to strengthen the friendly ties between the two countries. We emphasized the significance of constructive dialogue between our countries, and also discussed cooperation between various institutions,” he said.

President of Tajikistan stressed that Tajikistan highly valued the results of discussions which were held in a “constructive and mutual-understanding atmosphere.”

“Relations between the two countries are truly welcome in all areas. I am confident that the steps taken today will truly create the foundation for further strategic development of relations between the two countries,” he concluded.
