President of Georgia considers that pardoning rule should be stricter

Regardless of the form of the state pardoning commission, the final decision about pardoning of prisoners will be made by the president – Khatia Moistsrapishvili, Press Speaker of Georgian President said.

According to Moistsrapishvili, President Salome Zurabishvili will talk about pardoning related issues during her annual report to be delivered in the parliament on March 6.

“The act of pardoning is the constitutional right of the president. President believes that elaboration of the new rule for pardoning and staffing of pardoning commission are very important issues. Pardoning is a human act on part of the government through which President gives the chance of re-socialization to the convict. But interests of the public should be taken into consideration,” Moistsrapishvili stated.

Press Speaker of the Georgian President said that President believed that pardoning rule had to be stricter to increase the trust towards the commission, which should be staffed by professionals.
