President Kavelashvili meets WHO Director-General

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, has met with the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

According to the Georgian President’s Administration, the discussions focused on the outcomes of the long-standing cooperation between Georgia and the WHO, as well as prospects for further developing their partnership in the healthcare sector.

“The talks covered healthcare reforms implemented in Georgia with the vital support of the World Health Organisation. It was noted that this collaboration has contributed significantly to the development of the universal healthcare system, the implementation of primary healthcare reform, the refinement of pharmaceutical policy, and the strengthening of the country’s public health capacities.

The meeting also highlighted the milestones achieved by Georgia in recent years, including securing malaria-free status, increasing access to innovative medicines, and ongoing reforms in digital healthcare. Furthermore, Georgia’s active engagement within the WHO was commended, specifically its membership of the Organisation’s Executive Board and its role as co-chair of the ‘Group of Friends’ of Universal Health Coverage.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing close cooperation to strengthen the healthcare system, introduce modern standards, and deepen joint efforts in the field of global health,” the presidential administration released the details.
