President Kavelashvili holds one-on-one meeting with Serbian counterpart
The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, has held a one-on-one meeting with the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
According to the Press Office of the President of Georgia, the two leaders spoke of the close bonds of friendship between their countries, their shared cultural affinities, common values, and the geopolitical challenges of the present day. They also deliberated on the need to deepen cooperation between Georgia and Serbia across political, economic, technological, educational, and scientific and research spheres.
“President Mikheil Kavelashvili noted that a shared cultural identity, combined with the complex challenges facing both states, provides a firm foundation for the further development of bilateral relations and for mutual support on the international stage.
He placed particular emphasis on the growing momentum of high-level visits between the two countries. It was noted that the President of Georgia’s visit to Belgrade in December 2025 marked the first-ever presidential-level visit between the two nations, and that President Aleksandar Vučić’s current official visit to Tbilisi, likewise his first, will lend a qualitatively new impetus to the Georgia–Serbia partnership and bilateral dialogue.
During the meeting, the leaders reviewed ongoing political processes in both countries and highlighted the importance of safeguarding global peace, security, and stability. It was emphasised that, against the backdrop of a fundamental transformation of the international order and the global balance of power, maintaining stability and peace in both regions is particularly urgent.
President Kavelashvili stressed that Georgia, as a key link in the Middle Corridor, has a vested interest in expanding its partnership with the Western Balkans to help advance transport and logistics connectivity between Europe and Asia.
At the meeting, he reaffirmed that the course chosen by the Georgian authorities, oriented towards peace, stability, and economic prosperity, remains steadfast. This is reflected in the country’s long-standing tradition of peacemaking in the South Caucasus, a policy aimed at achieving lasting, sustainable stability in the region and deepening mutual trust among neighbouring states.
President Kavelashvili expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Serbia for Serbia’s unwavering support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Following the conclusion of the meeting, President Aleksandar Vučić made an entry in the Honorary Guests’ Book at the Orbeliani Palace,” the statement reads.
