President Kavelashvili: Georgia’s increasing importance as key link in Middle Corridor becomes ever more evident

“I am pleased to be on an official visit to the Slovak Republic, a country with a rich history and one of Georgia’s closest allies and friends,” said the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, during a joint press conference with the President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini.

According to Kavelashvili, Slovakia has consistently been a strong supporter of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Our countries are united by a shared vision based on peace, stability, and the protection of national interests. Amid growing global challenges and geopolitical risks, mutual support and close cooperation between countries that share common values are of particular importance,” Kavelashvili noted.

He also emphasized the importance of continuing high-level dialogue to maintain the positive momentum in bilateral relations.

“We discussed concrete plans and priorities for the near future, as well as the broad potential for sectoral cooperation, including trade and economic ties, investment, tourism, defense and security, culture, education, and youth affairs. It is especially welcome that, since January, direct air traffic between Kutaisi and Bratislava has resumed, which will bring our peoples closer and increase tourism in both countries,” he said.

Kavelashvili further highlighted Georgia’s growing role in the Middle Corridor amid a complex and rapidly evolving geopolitical environment.

“We emphasized that Georgia’s increasing importance as a key link in the Middle Corridor is becoming ever more evident. This role is inseparable from Georgia’s position in the South Caucasus. The corridor’s development is closely tied to our peace policy, which holds significant potential not only for Georgia but also for the wider region. Growing international interest confirms these opportunities. Our countries will continue working together to ensure that Georgia’s transit potential is fully realized,” Kavelashvili stated.
