Georgian people expressed their firm and clear will in a referendum held on March 31, 199, – Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili said in a statement released in connection with Referendum Day.
According to President, First President Zviad Gamsakhurdia had the greatest role in establishment of national-liberation movement and restoration of Georgia’s independence and statehood.
“Our history during millenniums was built by the aspiration of restoration of independence. This day, Georgian people expressed their wish that we wanted to become a worthy member of democratic community and consolidate the place, which fairly belongs to one of the oldest nations having unique culture.
This aim has never been put under a question mark and Georgia continues moving forward for gaining a place in united European family,” reads the statement of President Margvelashvili.
