The Georgian President, Mikheil Kavelashvili, has appointed Giorgi Modebadze as a judge of the Constitutional Court, the Presidential Administration announced.

According to the administration, Modebadze has many years of experience in the judicial system and previously served as First Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia.

Under Article 60 of the Constitution, the Constitutional Court consists of nine judges appointed for a term of 10 years: three are appointed by the President, three are elected by Parliament by a three-fifths majority, and three are appointed by the Supreme Court.

Modebadze’s appointment follows the early termination of the mandate of Judge Irine Imerlishvili, who was appointed by the President in 2016. Her powers were terminated as of October 20, 2025, based on her own application and by decree of the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court.
