As Georgian Health Minister announced her resignation yesterday, politicians in Georgia remarked on the decision. Members of the opposition wing mainly hold the entire government responsible for the current grave epidemiological situation in the country.
A member of the United National Movement (UNM) party, Zaal Udumashvili, said Ekaterine Tikaradze’s resignation indicates a conflict within the ruling team, namely between Ekaterine Tikaradze and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
Salome Samadashvili, opposition MP, believes that Georgia demonstrated the worst results in the Covid-19 pandemic management, and the whole Cabinet must resign. She added that the Health Minister’s resignation affirms that the Georgian Dream party exhausted all resources.
“When so many people die every day, and the government is unsuccessful, an internal conflict would have arisen. Now they are blaming each other,” Samadashvili said.
Badri Japaridze, the Lelo party leader, said the conflict within the GD party could have been linked with the fact that Tikaradze shares the recommendation of the medical council over ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili’s transfer to the multi-profile clinic.
The term “fall prey” is inappropriate concerning Ekaterine Tikaradze for Economy Minister Natia Turnava. The minister claims there has been no controversy, and the media should stop looking for a scandalous context behind the government’s staff policy. Natia Turnava stated that the country has passed over one stage of the fight against the pandemic, and staffing adjustments are in need now.
Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Kakha Kuchava said that Ekaterine Tikaradze never feared to carry out bold reforms and make the right decisions.
Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze quit on December 9, saying she would now join the GD Political Council.
