Police seize large quantity of drugs in Batumi

Law enforcement officers have seized particularly large quantities of drugs in Batumi – nearly 3 kilograms of cocaine, up to 13,000 ecstasy tablets and a particularly large amount of heroin, Deputy Interior Minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze announced at a briefing today.

According to Darakhvelidze, the seized drugs were allegedly intended for distribution at various nightclubs in Batumi, “which would have caused irreparable harm to people’s health and lives, particularly young people.”

Two Belarusian citizens have been arrested on charges of illegal possession and storage of particularly large quantities of drugs and assisting in drug crimes – R.S., born in 2000, and M.V., born in 2004.

The offence carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
