Police seize large quantities of drugs, detain foreign national

Through a coordinated effort involving joint operational measures and investigative actions, officers from the Detective (Operational) Division and the Investigation Division of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have detained E.B., a Ukrainian citizen born in 1999, on charges of illegal purchase and possession of a substantial quantity of drugs, as well as facilitating their illegal sale.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a statement confirming the operation. They emphasise that such crimes carry penalties of up to 20 years of imprisonment or life sentences.

“Law enforcement officers seized a significant amount of granules and loose material containing the narcotic drug Methadone, which the accused had placed for sale at a location in Zugdidi Municipality. E.B. was arrested in connection with this case,” the MIA explained.

The investigation is currently ongoing under Article 260, Parts 3 and 6 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, the Ministry added.
