Police seize illegal firearms and ammunition across Tbilisi and Regions, arresting 14 individuals
Police across Tbilisi and several regional departments, including the Central Criminal Police, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Imereti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, and Adjara, have detained 14 individuals on charges related to the illegal purchase, possession, and sale of firearms and ammunition. Two suspects have also been identified and exposed.
Following searches of personal, residential, and auxiliary storage facilities belonging to the accused, authorities recovered a variety of firearms, ammunition, and explosive devices as evidence.
Additionally, officers from the Central Criminal Police and the Revenue Service’s Customs Department prevented the smuggling of ammunition and explosives into the country. The suspects were apprehended at Batumi Port and the Sarpi customs checkpoint. During a thorough inspection of their vehicles, police seized two hand grenades, two detonators, and approximately 150 rounds of ammunition for various firearm models.
The investigation is ongoing under Article 236 of the Criminal Code, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to nine years.
