Police in Samegrelo seize 31 packages of methadone prepared for sale, arrest two foreign nationals

Officers from the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have detained two Moldovan nationals on suspicion of illegal possession, storage, and sale of a substantial quantity of narcotics.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during searches of the suspects’ private residence, temporary accommodation, and vehicle, law enforcement officers uncovered 31 packages containing methadone, comprising granules and loose material, all prepared for sale in a particularly large amount, serving as evidence collected from various locations.

The agency further reported that, as part of the investigation, it also seized materials necessary for packaging the narcotics.

The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260 and 260-4 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
