Police arrest seven, seize exceptionally large quantity of narcotics across Tbilisi and the regions

Officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Patrol Police, alongside the Tbilisi, Kakheti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, and Shida Kartli police departments, have arrested seven individuals during a series of operations. The suspects face charges including the illegal purchase and possession of exceptionally large quantities of narcotics and psychotropic substances, facilitating drug trafficking, and the illegal cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances.

According to the Ministry, the detainees include both Georgian nationals and foreign citizens.

During searches of the suspects’ persons, residences, and private plots of land, as well as from various other locations, law enforcement officers seized an exceptionally large quantity of narcotics and psychotropic substances as evidence. The seized items include methadone, buprenorphine, 201 cannabis plants, 143 packages of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), dried marijuana, baclofen, and gabapentin.

Police also recovered materials used for packaging illegal drugs.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260(4), and 265(1) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
