Police arrest foreign national for smuggling large quantities of psychotropic substances into Georgia
Officers from the Adjara Main Department of the Central Criminal Police, in collaboration with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, have detained a foreign national on suspicion of illegally purchasing, storing, and smuggling a substantial quantity of psychotropic substances into Georgia.
The suspect, a citizen of the Republic of Turkey, was apprehended at Batumi International Airport during a search of his hand luggage, where law enforcement officials discovered a significant amount of the psychotropic drug “Pregabalin”.
The investigation is currently ongoing under Articles 261 and 263 of the Criminal Code, which stipulate penalties of up to 12 years’ imprisonment.
