Police and protesters physically confront at anti-transparency bill rally

The physical confrontation between law enforcement officers and rally participants occurred near the Parliament.

The confrontation began after law enforcement tried to remove leaders of the opposition Ahali party, Nika Melia, Nika Gvaramia, and Bacho Dolidze, from the area as they were sitting at the entrance of the legislative body.

During the confrontation, police removed several individuals.

Rally participants on Rustaveli Avenue have stated their intent to surround the legislative body and prevent the ruling Georgian Dream MPs from leaving the Parliament building freely.

The protesters stated they had specific questions for the Georgian Dream deputies and wanted answers. Some protesters have also thrown eggs at the entrance of the building.

The plenary session of the Parliament, which debated the draft law on Transparency of Foreign Influence in its second reading today, ended a few minutes ago, and GD MPs are now leaving the legislative body.

Protests against the draft law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” have been ongoing for several days.
