PM: Trump's administration claims their predecessors used grants to organize revolutions in various countries

“Under the new U.S. administration’s decision, we have been granted a temporary reprieve from three months of funding suspension, and we are optimistic that this freeze will be extended indefinitely. Ultimately, this will have a profoundly positive impact on our country’s development trajectory – allowing us to build a more stable foundation, unencumbered by external attempts to destabilize our nation,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

According to the Prime Minister, the new U.S. administration’s revelations about the previous administration’s use of grants are particularly noteworthy.

“The situation has taken an interesting turn. We demanded greater transparency regarding these grants, and you may recall a big fuss they made about it. The previous administration sought to downplay the issue, using it as an excuse to resist our demand for NGOs to disclose their funding to the Georgian public annually. Yet, we witnessed two attempted revolutions – one in the spring of 2023 and another in the spring of 2024 – each sparked by a different NGO, which had received foreign funding.

The fervour and hysteria that ensued were staggering, but it’s clear now that certain aspects of this foreign funding are being brought to light. The most striking revelation, however, is the new U.S. administration’s candid admission that their predecessors had, in fact, used these grants as a means to sow discord and organize revolutions in various countries, thereby destabilizing governments – a very significant admission.

As you know, funding has been suspended for three months, and we are hopeful that it will remain so for a longer period. This will undoubtedly benefit our country’s development, as attempts to destabilize us from outside will no longer be fueled by foreign funds,” stated the Prime Minister.
